Eating Disorders Continuum of the Douglas Mental Health University Institute Since its inception in 1986, the Douglas Mental Health University Institute's Eating Disorders Continuum (EDC) has been helping adults with anorexia nervosa, bulimia, or non-specific eating disorders. The EDC’s multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals from a variety of fields (medicine, psychiatry, psychology, nursing, nutrition and social work) offers a treatment plan that includes one or more of the following: out-patient clinic, day program, day hospital and the in-patient unit. The out-patient clinic offers a comprehensive range of services that can be adjusted to meet individual needs. It combines individual, family/couple and group therapy in addition to providing nutritional and pharmacological therapies and follow-ups, as required. The day program and the day hospital address the needs of individuals requiring intensive care, by offering, among other things, participation in the preparation and completion of group meals. The in-patient unit is for people with severe medical and psychological complications or those for whom out-patient treatment is insufficient to resolve eating disorder symptoms.
